The Bike That Started It All

It all started with this little old e-bike Helena had. She didn’t have her license back then, so that bike was her go-to for getting around, to work, the beach, grabbing a coffee in town. Even without much reason, we were both super fond of it, and we started obsessing over e-bikes in general. Brody would hop on it too sometimes, just for fun. It was way too small for him, and honestly, it wasn’t the sturdiest thing, so bits of it kept falling apart. Somehow, we always managed to fix it with cable ties, tape, whatever we could scrounge up.

We still call it the bike that started it all, and you’ll probably spot it in one of our photos somewhere here.

The Moment Everything Changed

One morning on her way to work, Helena had a little run-in with a car. Nothing serious, thankfully, but when she went for a quick checkup, we found out she was pregnant. Totally unexpected, but in the best way. That moment changed everything, and we decided to just trust the timing and pour ourselves into building something meaningful for our little family.

Back then we were living in a tiny loft, both working full-time. Helena worked right up until she was nine months pregnant, and Brody was painting houses every day, hustling to save whatever we could. Life was full-on, but we kept dreaming about simpler times, that little e-bike and the freedom it gave us, the feeling of just riding, letting your mind wander, catching the late afternoon light, soaking in the beauty around Byron.

We’d always joked about starting an e-bike business, something that gives people that same feeling of freedom and joy, another layer to daily life. Late afternoon rides became a favourite part of Brody and Helena’s day, cruising to hidden spots, letting their mind drift, feeling completely free. That’s the feeling we want Tide E-Bikes to give everyone.

The idea really took off when Brody used a work bonus to buy a bike, sold it, then bought another. Slowly, it grew into this thing we couldn’t stop tinkering with, researching, learning, and building Tide E-Bikes from scratch in our little loft.

Where Tide Is Today

We’re absolutely proud of the bikes we ride ourselves, we get genuinely excited about them, and with all the different models and customization possibilities we’ve added, our bikes celebrate the beautiful, diverse culture of riders here in Byron and all across Australia.

We officially started Tide E-Bikes one month before our baby was born. And we can say it was insane and inspiring. We had the biggest reason to do it.

What began as a way to get around Byron Bay turned into a family business built on freedom, resilience, and the belief that every ride should feel like a little adventure, smooth, breezy, and full of possibility.
